The House of Representatives invited government and law-enforcement institutions on Thursday to provide input in its bid to reform itself.

“The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested more than 40 legislators up to now. I think there is something wrong with the way we work,” said House Speaker Marzuki Alie.

Marzuki said that reform was urgent to help restore the already tarnished image of the House and to regain the public’s trust.

“It has been 13 years since Indonesia was liberated from an authoritarian regime. We must continue to improve our laws for the benefit of the people,” he added.

Your comments:

The recruitment system for the House needs to be changed. As we can see almost all of MP’s can obtain their seats through misleading. They are not really people with correct self concepts and ideology.

As we can see, their performance in the House does not show that they are really working for the people’s interests but for their own business interests.

What about changing the political system in our country?

I am of the opinion that people representatives can be found from neighborhood based representatives. They have been working for the people in neighborhoods without payment.

Experience from the liberation of the authoritarian regime shows that lawmakers from political parties are no longer legitimate because they never listen to the cries of marginalized constituents.

There’s definitely something wrong with the way the House works, starting with the fact that they aren’t exactly representing their constituencies.

To read the statement of the House Speaker Marzuki Alie is very touching.

And to see his face, he is so sad too. Thirteen years have passed since Indonesia has been liberated from its authoritarian regime and people have come to mistrust the House more, resulting in a complete loss of credibility.

I myself personally hope that the meeting will really change and improve the quality of how the government, the House, police and all other authorities work to run our country free of corruption. I hope they start to think for the majority of Indonesians.

Since we cast off Dutch colonial rule from Indonesia, people have never tasted a country governed by good governance.

They’ve known only corruption and criminality, which has torn at the fabric of society.

Poverty is the result of evil authority.

“I think there is something wrong with the way we work,” said House Speaker Marzuki Alie.

Thank God that has been noted! Finally, they have admitted their mistake.

But can they really confess to what they have done? Can they take responsibility for our condition and put their occupation as lawmakers on the table.

Marzuki Ali is right. There is something wrong with the definition of “leader” in Indonesia.

In the House of Representatives context, legislators’ function should serve and to represent the people, not to take advantage from their position by abusing their power such as stealing public’s money or slapping the face of public servants as that happened at the airport recently.
