ver-evolving Ubud in Bali offers a smorgasbord of options to satisfy your appetite, from modest warung to family restaurants and even a handful of fi ne-dining establishments. Most of your favorites are still cooking, but here are a few new places with some cross-cultural fl air to tempt your palate.
Bridges Bali
Food:East–West fusion and fi nedining selections feature in the appetizers and main courses. Cheeses carry their own corner of the menu. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dinner is served from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Decor: Classy casual with linen in a romantic setting overlooking the Wos river next to CampuhanBridge, which leads to the palace and the heart of Ubud. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available.
Crowd:Couples or groups looking to celebrate a special occasion in sleepy Ubud and/ or seeking a superior glass of imported wine.Best to visit on an evening when the babysitter is available.
Must-try: Seared sea scallop appetizer served on a bed of sautéed mushrooms. Happy hour specials in the adjoining Divine Wine bar: Rp 50,000 a glass for selected wines, 5 p.m.to 7 p.m. daily.
Perhaps you should reconsider …Some patrons fi nd the food a bit rich and heavy. If you are accustomed to lighter fare, be forewarned.

Il Giardino
Food: Italian classics including antipasto, pastas, pizzas and risotto alongside Italian mains and a handfulof Indonesian favorites (if you are the only one in your group who simply cannot handle Italian).
Decor: Nature meets romance, with simple tables on a veranda in a Balinese water garden. Crowd: Families, couples and groups looking for something a or just the best Italian food in Ubud.
Must-try: Thin-crust pizzas with generous, fresh toppings. Homemade pastas. Perhaps you should reconsider … Refi lling the olive oil – don’t be shy! Generous free-fl owing water, an essential elixir of life, could be as graciously offered as the delicious, freshly shaved, imported parmesan.

Warung Sopa
Food: Hearty homemade soups, fresh nasicampur selections with red rice, “taco rice” salad, all-vegetarian menu. Vegan desserts.
Decor: Simple, cozy nooks for friendly conversation, WiFiconnection or plopping down on floor pillows. Children’s corner even provides a safe corral, if needed, for the small ones.
Crowd: Looking for a quick and healthy lunch or great spot for chatting with a friend. Families or mothers with small children receive a particularly warm welcome.
Must-try: Simple and sweet soya milk pudding drizzled with a little palm sugar syrup. Also try the Sunday Organic Market at Sopa held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Perhaps you should reconsider … Not entirely clear whether it offers table service or not. Perhaps a sign should be posted to guide patrons as to the most polite strategy.
