Russia repatriates Sukhoi victims

AKARTA: The eight Russian victims of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 crash were repatriated by plane at 4 a.m. on Thursday.

After Transportation Minister E.E. Mangindaan, representing the government, handed over the remains of the victims to their relatives on Wednesday morning, the eight coffins of the Russian victims were placed for viewing at the National Police Sukanto Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, while awaiting departure.

“Similar to the victims’ families here, the Russian families have also prepared burials for their loved ones,” Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Alexander Ivanov said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The following are the names of the Russian victims:

1. Eugeny Alexandro Grebenshikov 5. Alexander Nikolaevich Yablontsev 2. Kristina Nikolaesna Kurzhuposa 6. Alexander Pavlovich Kochetkov

3. Nikolay Dmitriesich Nartyshchenko 7. Denis Valerievich Rakhimov

4. Alexey Nikolaesich Kirkin 8. Oleg Vasilevich Shvetsov

The Russian-made Sukhoi Superjet 100 crashed on May 9 near Mt. Salak in West Java. It carried 45 passengers, 35 of whom were Indonesian nationals. In addition to the eight Russians, one was a US national and another was a French national. No passengers survived.
