AKARTA: Director Hanung Bramantyo is preparing a new movie that will focus on the story of Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno.

“The movie is related to the nation’s history. The title will be Indonesia Merdeka, [Indonesian independence]” he said, as quoted by kompas.com.

“[Indonesia Merdeka] is currently in the phase of scriptwriting, research and casting. The shoot is slated to be held in January [2013] and it will be screened in theaters in June, during school holidays,” he said.

Indonesia Merdeka will tell the story of Sukarno’s days as a young man up until he proclaimed the nation’s independence.
