AKARTA: Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar crowned dangdut singer Iis Dahlia as the Ambassador for Indonesian Migrant Workers last weekend.

Muhaimin said that he chose Iis as the ambassador after seeing her sing in Cianjur.

“She has a good way of communicating and Iis knows very well the conditions of Indonesian migrant workers. So I think Iis deserves to be the ambassador,” he said as quoted by Tempo.co.

Her task will include monitoring reporting on the conditions of the workers and maintaining the quality of those sent overseas.

Iis said that she often heard stories about the plight of Indonesian workers when she visits her hometown in Indramayu.
