Big Bang’s big party concert

“Come together, everyone gather here. We’re gonna party like lilililala.”

Those two first lines of South Korean group Big Bang’s hit song Fantastic Baby, have been brought to life well during the Alive Galaxy Tour 2012 at Mata Elang International Stadium on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13 as the group successfully turned its concerts into big parties.

Attended by thousands of fans on both days, even though the first day’s audience only filled half of the venue that has a maximum capacity of 10,000 people. But that didn’t stop both performers and the audiences from having fun during the two-and-a-half hour concerts.

The group’s stage concept and full live band were definitely factors that differentiate Big Bang’s concerts from any Korean group, who mostly performed with playback music.

Carrying the name of Galaxy tour, the group lived up to the title of their world concert sponsored by Korea’s electronic giant Samsung electronics, by appearing as if they flew from another galaxy down to earth.

The concert started when the giant screen, which was a removable backdrop, fell away showing five tubes, each containing a Big Bang member; G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P, Daesung and Seungri with oxygen masks on their faces accompanied by the intro to their song “Alive” right on 8 p.m. as scheduled.

As the tubes opened, the intro switched into “Tonight”, the opening song of the concert. The group’s frontman G-dragon greeted fans with “what’s up Indonesia?”

The venue was enlivened with bright colors as the fans turned on their yellow crown lightsticks (the group’s official merchandise) and the nonstop screams of its fans, known as VIPs.

The group continued with “Hands Up” and the energetic song “Fantastic Baby”, followed by “How Gee” and “Stupid Liar”.

Before continuing to the sixth song, the members greeted their fans with “Apa  kabar” followed by Taeyang who beatboxing the sentence “aku cinta padamu” prompted an even louder screams from VIPs.

Still with upbeat songs G-dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, and T.O.P, whose real name is Choi Seung-hyun, performed duet in “Knock Out” and “High High”.

The youngest member of the group, Seungri took over the stage with two of his solo numbers “Strong Baby” and “What Can I Do”, before other members came back on stage and sang “Gara Gara Go”, “Number 1” and a smooth and sexy song “Cafe”.

The group then tried to chit chat with fans using English but soon turned back into Korean.

Big Bang moved on with four slow songs “Bad Boy”, “Blue”, “Love Song” and “Monster”. Feeling was sang later before Taeyang, whose real name is Dong Young-bae, took over the stage and sang his solo songs “Look Only at Me” and “Wedding Dress”, which was closed with him ripping off his white sleeveless shirt. The group ended the show with several encores.
