Several people were injured when a fire broke out in Nagoya Hills, a major shopping mall in Batam, Riau Islands, on Saturday.
The incident started when a Telkomsel outlet located on the mall's second floor caught fire at noon, spreading to a nearby J-Co donut outlet and other nearby stores.
Nagoya Hill was packed when the fire occurred, forcing hundreds to evacuate. Firefighters extinguished the blaze around 2:30 p.m. local time.
Lubuk Baja police precinct commander Comr. Aris Rusdiyanto said investigators would probe the reasons behind the fire.
'For the moment, we suspect that it was an electrical short circuit in one of the stores,' Aris said. (nai/ebf)
