Several people were injured when a fire broke out in Nagoya Hills, a major shopping mall in Batam, Riau Islands, on Saturday.

The incident started when a Telkomsel outlet located on the mall'€™s second floor caught fire at noon, spreading to a nearby J-Co donut outlet and other nearby stores.

Nagoya Hill was packed when the fire occurred, forcing hundreds to evacuate. Firefighters extinguished the blaze around 2:30 p.m. local time.

Lubuk Baja police precinct commander Comr. Aris Rusdiyanto said investigators would probe the reasons behind the fire.

'€œFor the moment, we suspect that it was an electrical short circuit in one of the stores,'€ Aris said. (nai/ebf)
