The Manado administration is to build a zoo to boost its tourism, especially its ecotourism potentials, an official said here Sunday.
"There are two alternatives [under consideration] for the location of the zoo: Manado Tua Island in Bunaken and Gunung Tumpa in Manado," Manado Mayor Vicky Lumentut said on Sunday as quoted by Antara news agency.
"We need a new tourist attraction in Manado Tua to attract more visitors and that is a zoo," Lumentut said.
Bunaken, which was declared a national park in 1991, was among the first of Indonesia's marine parks.
Lumentut invited investors interested in building the zoo and promised to give easy access to serious investors.
The mayor also urged residents not to hinder its construction plan by setting high land prices for investors as the project was expected to provide more job opportunities for local residents.
