tate-owned railway operator PT KAI has received a Rp 25 billion (US$2.51 million) subsidy from the government to provide free bike deliveries to Jakartans wanting to celebrate Idul Fitri in Central Java and Yogyakarta.
PT KAI spokesman Sukendar Mulya said on Tuesday that the House of Representatives has already endorsed the proposed subsidy, which will also include free delivery by ship. 'We will announce the new move soon,' he told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
With the available funds, Transportation Ministry spokesman Bambang S. Ervan told kompas.com that more than 19,000 motorcycles could be delivered by train to the two cities.
Millions of people are expected to use motorcycles to transport their families to Yogyakarta, West, Central and East Java and Lampung to celebrate Idul Fitri.
