adli Sadama, a high-profile terrorist who escaped from Tanjung Gusta prison in Medan, North Sumatra, in July, has been recaptured in Malaysia, a National Police official said on Tuesday.

National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Agus Rianto said that the Royal Malaysian Police, who made the arrest in an unspecified location, had handed Fadli over to the National Police recently.

"We are still investigating how he entered Malaysia. He has been taken back to Indonesia. After we complete the interrogation, he will be placed in a penitentiary that can accommodate him," he said at National Police headquarters in Jakarta.

In 2011, Fadli was sentenced to 11 years in prison for his role in an armed robbery of a CIMB Niaga Bank in Medan and the attack on Hamparan Perak Police station in Deli Serdang regency in 2010.

Fadli, who is believed to have ties to Jamaah Islamiyah, is known for his wide-reaching connections to extremist groups in Malaysia and Thailand.

In October 2010, Fadli was arrested in Malaysia for attempting to smuggle firearms into Indonesia for terrorist activities.

During a riot at the overcrowded Tanjung Gusta Penitentiary on July 11, Fadli and his accomplices Agus Sunyoto, Nibras and Abdul, fled the facility, along with 214 other inmates.
