T

he Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Police have announced the arrest of four people who allegedly constitute a gang that drugs and robs newly returned Indonesian migrant workers at the airport.

Comr. Dhany Alianda of the Airport Police'€™s crime division said the arrested men were identified only as RNS, TSR, SPT and AM. He said the police had also confiscated several ATM cards, packs of sleeping pills and a tablet device allegedly belonging to a victim.

'€œTheir modus operandi was pretending to be Indonesian migrant workers on their way home. They usually offered a ride home to a targeted victim and if the victim took the bait, they would rob him or her on the journey,'€ Dhany said on Thursday.

He said the police had been initially tipped off by one of the victims, a chef who had just returned home after working on a cruise ship. The gang stole Rp 20 million from the victim before dumping him in the middle of a road on the way to Bandung, his hometown.

According to the victim, the gang members said they too were going to Bandung and offered him a free ride. In the middle of the journey, they gave the victim an "herbal drink" they said would give him energy but that was really dosed with sleeping pills.

The victim said in the moment before he lost consciousness, the gang members forced him to reveal his PIN number.(dic)
