PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS), Suzuki's brand holder in Indonesia, plans to launch a diesel engine version of its Suzuki Ertiga compact light multi-purpose vehicle (LMPV) in the country, according to autocarindonesia.com.

The new Ertiga has a 1,249 cc DDiS diesel engine with four cylinders and four valves per cylinder. 'This engine is the same as that of the Chevrolet Spin,' said Davy Jeffry Tuilan, SIS' head of 4W sales. The existence of the new Suzuki Ertiga is part of Suzuki's attempt to strengthen its hold on the LMPV market.

'Right now, the Suzuki Ertiga diesel engine is being tested at 50,000 kilometers. We will launch it at the end of the year,' Davy said. 'It will come out earlier than the Karimun Wagon R seven-seaters. The prices will remain competitive.'

It uses CRDI fuel distribution and has a maximum power of 90 PS at 4,000 rpm. It has a maximum torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm, and weighs 1,845 kilograms.

The Suzuki Ertiga was first launched in Indonesia in April 2012. Its name is said to be an adaptation of R-Tiga, where tiga means 'three' in Indonesian, while the 'R' stands for rows. In March this year, the Ertiga won Car of the Year 2014 and Value for Money Car of the Year 2014 at the Frost & Sullivan Indonesia Excellence Awards 2014.
