ell phone giant Sony Mobile Communications sees Indonesia as the market with the most potential in the Asia Pacific in the coming years as the country'€™s middle class continues to grow.

Sony Mobile Indonesia'€™s director and country head Kazuo Sawachi said that Indonesia was a very important market for Sony because of its huge population. '€œThe number of middle-income people in Indonesia is increasing year by year, which means the smartphone demand will continue to increase,'€ he said.

'€œOn the other hand, [the cell phone] market share is not very big yet, so for Sony, it is an opportunity to grow its sales in Indonesia.'€

Its deputy market head Oky Gunawan added that Indonesia was one of the countries that Sony was set to invest heavily. '€œIndonesia is the only country in Asia Pacific that has become Sony'€™s main investment priority,'€ he said on Saturday.

According to a GFK study, Sony placed second in the mobile phone market rankings in Indonesia in terms of value. '€œThis year we are trying to maintain the position and to widen the gap to third place,'€ he said during the promotional event for the company'€™s new smartphone Xperia Z2.

Oky said the company had received orders for more than 1,200 Z2 phones since it was launched in early March, this year.
