EDAN: Bank Indonesia's (BI) TabunganKu (My Savings) microsaving program has attracted interest since its launch in February 2010, as reflected by the increase in nationwide savings accounts in the program, a central bank official has said.
'The number of nationwide TabunganKu accounts has seen an increase of 10.58 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2013 from 10.62 million accounts to 11.74 million accounts with an average balance of
Rp 800,000 [US$68],' Difi A. Johansyah, head of BI's Region IX North Sumatra-Aceh representative office, said on Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
TabunganKu allows individual potential banking customers to open an account with a low initial deposit and no monthly administrative costs that are usually slapped on conventional bank accounts in the country. It aims to boost a saving culture in society, according to Difi.
