ast Kotawaringin Regent Supian Hadi said that he believed that the Sampit town would become a tourist destination in Central Kalimantan province in 2015.
'If Bali can become a tourist destination in this country, why are we not able to make Sampit as tourist destination too?' he said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said that his administration was making serious efforts to prepare all potential tourist sites owned by Sampit, ranging from natural attractions, culinary tour and local religious tourism.
He said that if Sampit had become a tourist destination, such title would boost its economic development. Therefore, its residents were the most advantaged party.
In 2001, Sampit got spotlight nationwide because of communal clashes between indigenous Dayak people against migrant Madurese settlers, which claimed hundreds of lives. (alz)(+++)
