ast Kotawaringin: East Kotawaringin Regent Supian Hadi say he believes that Sampit will become a tourist destination in Central Kalimantan province next year.

'€œIf Bali can become a tourist destination, why are we not able to make Sampit a tourist destination too?'€ he said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.

He said his administration was making serious efforts to prepare all potential tourist sites in and around Sampit, ranging from natural attractions and culinary tours to local religious sites.

In 2001, Sampit was in the spotlight nationwide because of communal clashes between the indigenous Dayak and migrant Madurese settlers, which claimed hundreds of lives.
