The inaugural Naksoo Muay Thai Fight commenced on Saturday, featuring 26 fighters from four countries.
The one-day tournament at Simprug Pertamina Sports Hall is jointly held by Australia-based Dynamite Muay Thai camp and its local partner, Baan Muay Thai camp.
Six of the participants hail from Malaysia, Spain and Australia. The Indonesian fighters come from Tangerang, West Java, Surabaya, East Java, Yogyakarta and Jakarta.
'This tournament is being held to introduce Muay Thai, an entertaining sporting event that is open to an audience of all ages,' Francois Mohede, chairman of Indonesia Muay Thai, said in a press release on Friday
Frans, as he is more popularly known, is also the owner of Baan Muay Thai.
His counterpart from Dynamite Muay Thai, Dennis O'dea, hoped that the event would be an opportunity for Indonesian Muay Thai fighters to measure their skills against their foreign rivals.
'We want to show the world that Indonesia has many potential Muay Thai fighters,' said the Indonesia-naturalized Australian fight promoter.
