Melia Hotels plans expansion in RI

M

elia Hotels International, a leading Spanish hotel company, continues to expand in Indonesia, most recently with the opening of a new hotel in Bali, the Melia Ubud. Five other properties are planned in the country.

Melia Hotels International signed a management agreement with PT Pilar Prambanan Investama, part of the Podo Joyo Masyhur Group, earlier this month to manage the new Melia Ubud.

'€œThe Melia brand has been present in Bali for almost 30 years. Melia Hotels International is very excited about adding Melia Ubud to our portfolio, giving our clients additional accommodation options and increasing our cross-selling opportunities between our properties in Nusa Dua, Benoa and Legian,'€ Melia vice president for the Asia-Pacific region, Bernardo Cabot, said.

The Melia Ubud is its fourth hotel on the island of the gods.

The company plans to open the Gran Melia Bintan in the Riau Islands, Melia Surabaya in East Java, Innside Yogyakarta in Yogyakarta, Innside Makassar in South Sulawesi and Sol House Legian in Bali in the near future.

'€œIndonesia is a very special place for Melia Hotels International, as it was in Bali in 1985 when Gabriel Escarrer opened the company'€™s first international hotel, the Melia Bali,'€ he added.

Prior to the opening of its latest property in Ubud, it managed the Gran Melia Jakarta, Melia Bali, Melia Purosani and Sol Beach House Benoa Bali. (***)
