RI to host Asia Africa Summit in April

I

ndonesia is preparing to host a major summit meeting of the Asian and African nations scheduled for April, which will be attended by around 109 leaders.

This year, Asian and African countries will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1955 Asia Africa Conference, as well as the 10th anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP).

Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, along with Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil, met with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to discuss preparations at the Presidential Office on Friday.

'€œThe preparations will be carried out immediately and the President has given his directives," Retno told the press at a conference after the meeting.

The Asia Africa Summit'€™s leaders'€™ meeting, senior officials'€™ meeting and ministerial meeting will be held in Jakarta from April 19 to 23, while the commemoration event will be held in Bandung, West Java, on April 24.

Other than the main events, two big side events--the Asia Africa Business Summit and the Asia Africa Carnival--will be held in the West Java capital.

Indonesia is to invite the heads of 25 international organizations.

"The theme that we will promote during the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference is the strengthening of South-South cooperation. At the same time, we want South-South cooperation to contribute to efforts to promote world peace and prosperity," Retno added. (nfo)(++++)
