he Kuala Lumpur-based low-cost carrier AirAsia Malaysia announced on Wednesday that it would connect Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru with Pontianak, West Kalimantan, and Medan, North Sumatra, respectively, to capture growing travel demand in the market.

The carrier is set to launch both flight services on March 27.

The Kuala Lumpur'€“Pontianak and Johor Bahru'€“Medan routes will be operated by an Airbus A320-200 aircraft with a total capacity of 180 seats, two flights a week.

AirAsia Indonesia president director Sunu Widyatmoko said that the services showed the airline'€™s commitment to enhancing air connectivity between Indonesia and Malaysia.

'€œPontianak is one of the biggest industrial and business centers in Kalimantan that also offers ecotourism and rich culinary heritage. We believe that our service will help increase business activities and investment between Pontianak and Kuala Lumpur,'€ Sunu said on Wednesday.

He also said that AirAsia wanted to capture the rising demand of medical tourism from Medan to Johor Bahru by opening the route linking both cities.(+++)
