akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said many government officials and councilors may have paid for high-class prostitutes, whose services are go beyond what their salaries could cover, through illegal means.
"If they can pay high-class prostitutes, then they must be corrupt, or are taking the high-class prostitutes as bribes from 'bribers'," Ahok told reporters at City Hall on Wednesday.
High-class prostitution, sometimes involving celebrities, ranges from Rp 25 million (US$1,895) to Rp 200 million per transaction. Some celebrities take side jobs as sex workers because of their luxury lifestyles and lack of professional work.
Ahok went on to say that clients of high-class prostitutes should be exposed in order to investigate corruption in the sex industry. (++++)
