Singaporean died after slipping into the sea when trying to take a selfie on a cliff that was 2 meters high on Nusa Lembongan, an islet to the east of Denpasar, on Thursday.

Nusa Penida police said that 21-year-old Mohamed Aslam Bin Shahul drowned in the incident.

Shahul and eight other friends were enjoying their holiday at Sandi Bay Beach on Lembongan island. The victim was trying to take a selfie when a wave hit the cliff.

'€œWhen the wave came, he could not control himself. He slipped and then fell down into the 5-meter-deep water,'€ the Nusa Penida police chief Adj. Comr. Gede Arianta said.

As soon as his friends realized that Shahul fell, they tried to save him. Many locals also plunged into the sea to save him.

'€œApparently, the victim could not swim,'€ Arianta said.

The officer said that the body was taken to Jungut Batu community health center, where the doctor declared him dead. The body was later taken to Sanglah Hospital before it was flown to Singapore on Friday.
