he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will summon Musi Banyuasin regent Pahri Azhari and question him as a witness in the graft case connected to the ongoing deliberation of the South Sumatran regency's draft budget revision.
'Yes, he will be questioned immediately,' KPK spokesperson Priharsa Nugraha said here on Tuesday.
A KPK team allegedly caught two officials from the regency administration red-handed while trying to bribe two councilors in Palembang on Friday and confiscated Rp 2.56 billion (US$193,000) from the four suspects. The commission also seized documents from the suspects' residencies on Monday.
According to Priharsa, the commission has yet to see any indication that the regent was involved in bribery.
'All sides and personnel taking part in the draft budget revision's deliberation will be questioned to understand the process of the draft budget deliberation,' she said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Priharsa said the commission would begin investigating the graft case this week by summoning all witnesses in the case; they will be questioned either in Palembang or in Jakarta. (rms)(+++)
