alago Buni, an ethnic music group from Padang, West Sumatra, will hold a series of concerts in 17 cities throughout Germany and Belgium from Oct. 14 to 20, the group'€™s artistic director Edy Utama said on Tuesday.

Edy said his group, which specialized in the genre of '€œworld music'€, would begin its tour at the Frankfurt Book Fair starting on Oct. 15. Indonesia will act as guest of honor at the world'€™s largest book fair this year.

'€œIn Germany, Talago Buni'€™s tour is part of '€˜Klangkosmos'€™, an art and music network from several cities in the area of North Rhine-Westphalia,'€ the former chairman of the West Sumatra Art Council told The Jakarta Post.

Talago Buni, which literally means '€œSounds of the Lake'€, would end its tour by performing at the world famous Berliner Philharmoniker, in Berlin on Oct. 20, he added.

Established in 1998, Talago Buni offers contemporary music rooted in the Minangkabau ethnic traditions of West Sumatra.

The group, which comprises six musicians who play traditional instruments such as gong, talempong (gamelan), kecapi (lute), ganto and piring (plate), recently represented Indonesia at the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) in Kuching, Malaysia.
