The Jakarta City Council has planned to allocate funds for 12 working visits to Bali for the city councilors next year.
The allocations are mentioned in a document about the budget plan, where it states that two of the visits are for the City Council's Budgetary Body, two visits are for the council's Consultative Body, two visits are for the council's Honorary Body, three visits are for the council's special committee and three visits are for the members of the council's three commissions.
Kompas.com reported that city councilors also planned to visit the US, Hungary, the Netherlands, China, Japan and South Korea.
Head of Finance division at the City Council Secretariat Dame Aritonang said that it was only a draft of the proposed visits that would be valid after it was included in the 2016 city budget.
The city has to allocate Rp 13.9 billion (US$10 million) if all the proposed visits are approved.
Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that it was the right of the city councilors to allocate funds for the Bali visits. But he questioned the urgency of their visits.
'I cannot prohibit them. They have allocated [the fund] for the visits. But what they will do there, I do not know,' Ahok said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Meanwhile, City Council secretary Muhammad Yuliadi said that although Bali was mentioned in the document, city councilors may visit other places and the funds needed would be adjusted with the spending needed for the visit.
'Bali is written in the document. It will be used as a standard for the budget needed for their transportation, hotels, etc. City councilors may visit other provinces and the fund will certainly be adjusted to the real spending of their visits,' Yuliadi added. (bbn)(++++)
