he Indonesian Air Force expects to receive the first batch of French-made Dassault Rafale fighter jets, consisting of three units of the two-seater Rafale B variant, according to their scheduled delivery in January, as revealed on Friday during an acceptance ceremony at Dassault Aviation’s Merignac facility in, Bordeaux.

Indonesian Air Force deputy chief of staff Air Marshal Tedi Rizalihadi attended the ceremony on behalf of Air Force chief of staff Air Chief Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono.

“Today’s acceptance ceremony is an important step in strengthening Indonesia’s air power,” Tedi said on Nov. 28 in his speech, an excerpt of which was posted to the Air Force’s Instagram account @militer.udara.

“We appreciate Dassault Aviation’s commitment and support from Safran and Thales in ensuring Rafale’s quality and readiness in strengthening the Indonesian Air Force,” he said.

Tedi was referring to Safran Aerosystems, which manufactures the M88 turbofan engines that power the Rafale, and avionics group Thales, which manufactures the SPECTRA electronic warfare system and the RBE2 radar developed for the aircraft.

The ceremony included a technical presentation of the aircraft’s systems, an inspection of its physical condition and airworthiness documents as well as a discussion on operational readiness, maintenance, logistics and sustainment.

The three Rafale B fighters symbolically handed over during the ceremony have the tail numbers T-0301, T-0301 and T-0303, and are set to be flown directly from France to Indonesia in January.
