P

olice have questioned Ronald Mumek, the manager of an Inul Vizta karaoke parlor in Manado, North Sulawesi, following a fire that ravaged the parlor and left 12 people dead on Sunday.

'€œThe management of the karaoke hall could be charged under Article 188 of the Criminal Code [on negligence] and Law No. 28/2002 on buildings,'€ said Manado Police chief Sr. Comr. Rio Permana.

Rio said the fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electricity short circuit in the second floor of the three-story karaoke hall, caused damage amounting to about Rp 1 billion (US$71,429).

Besides the manager, he said, police also questioned staff at the premises and deployed forensic officers to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
