P

ekanbaru District Court has sentenced Mario Steven Ambarita to five months in prison for smuggling himself on to a Garuda Indonesia flight last year.

Presiding judge Irwan Efendi said Mario had violated the Aviation Law as he had trespassed in a restricted zone at the airport and its facilities.

“Based on the evidence that we have gathered, and statements from expert witnesses in the trial, he must be punished,” Irwan said.

Mario climbed out from a wheel well of a Garuda Indonesia airliner where he had hidden throughout a one-hour flight from Pekanbaru, Riau, to Jakarta on April 7, 2015.
