he House of Representatives is scheduled to approve the new regional election law later this month, having established a committee to start the deliberation of the bill as a revision to Law No. 1/2015 on regional elections.
The 26 members of the working committee are lawmakers from House’s Commission II overseeing regional affairs.
“The regional elections bill should be passed into law by the end of April,” House Commission II chairman Rambe Kamarul Zaman said during a hearing at the House complex on Friday.
The law needs to be approved immediately to give the General Elections Commission (KPU) enough time to prepare the elections to elect 16 governors, 39 mayors and 115 regents on Feb. 15 next year.
Among the revised articles are those relating to campaign funding, candidacy, dispute settlement and preventing local political dynasties. (bbn)
