T

he body of Captain Karmanam, the pilot of the Bell 204 LA helicopter that crashed in Papua on Saturday during a flight from Nabire to Degewo, has been sent to Jakarta on a Garuda Indonesia Tbk flight.

Three of the passengers, Asmar, Hadi Mustari, and Danius Kogoya received treatment at Nabire Hospital and are said to be in a stable condition, said Nabire Police Chief AKBP Semmy Ronny Thabba.

'Before being flown to Jakarta from Biak, the body was delivered from Nabire on an SAS Air flight. The funeral will be held in Tangerang,'' Semmy told The Jakarta Post, on Saturday.

The Amur Aviation Indonesia helicopter went down beside the Degewo River, 99 kilometers from Paniai at 8 a.m. local time. A sudden gush of wind is alleged to be the cause of the incident.

'According to Asmar, strong wind caused the chopper to become unsteady before the crash,'' said Paniai Police Chief Adj. Sr. Cmdr. Leo Nabu.

A representative of the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) Norbert Tunyanan said a team from KNKT Jakarta were dispatched to Nabire to investigate the incident. (ags)
