ndonesia, Southeast Asia’s biggest economy, saw another decline in national motorcycle sales as the figure dropped by 3.5 percent last month compared to April.
The number of units sold in May was 461,506, a slight decline from the 478,036 recorded in April, the latest data released by the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) revealed.
AISI previously aimed to sell 6.5 million motorcycles this year, after selling only 6.4 million in 2015, a drop from 7.8 million in 2014.
Motorcycle maker Honda aims to sell 4.45 million motorbikes this year, the same target as last year. Yamaha wants to sell 2 million, down from the 2.55 million eyed in 2015. Meanwhile, Suzuki has a sales target of 150,000 motorbikes, higher than the roughly 140,000 it targeted last year.
Motorcycles are a popular means of transportation in Indonesia and motorcycle sales are a key indicator of consumption. Like the previous month, May’s sales were led by Honda, followed by Yamaha and Kawasaki.
