he powerful Indonesian team took down host Scotland 10-3 on Wednesday in the Homeless World Cup 2016 at George Square, Glasgow.
The Homeless World Cup is an annual soccer tournament organized by a social organization of the same name that advocates for the end of homelessness through soccer, specifically street soccer.
In Wednesday’s qualifying round, Indonesia also beat Romania 4-3 and Denmark 9-4 in earlier matches.
Despite the Indonesian players being of considerably smaller stature than the Scottish players, the visiting team managed to collect the victory thanks to inspiring support from spectators.
“We cheered so loudly for the team. I saw some foreigners also supporting the Indonesian team,” said Maya Susanti, an Indonesian studying in Glasgow, in a statement released by the Indonesian Homeless World Cup team on Thursday.
On Thursday, Indonesia faces Portugal, which has also collected nine points so far.
Team manager Rizki Kurniawan said his team should watch out for the strong Portuguese, who might be inspired by their recent glory in the Euro 2016 soccer championship.
In total, 64 teams representing 52 countries are participating in the event, which runs from July 10 to 16.
The venue, George Square, has been converted into an outdoor street soccer venue for the event, with three purpose built pitches and seating. Up to 100,000 spectators are expected to attend the tournament.
