he East Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Office has found 25 fake graves at Pondok Rangon cemetery in East Jakarta.
The data was gathered by the office through checking administrative evidence as well as physically assessing the graves by sticking an iron pole into each burial plot to see whether they were empty.
Office head Christian Tamora Hutagalung said on Monday that it was easy to tell whether a grave was fake or not.
“We know it is fake if the grave is not listed with the agency, even though it has a pile of dirt and a tombstone,” he said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Christian said the fake graves at Pondok Rangon did not even have tombstones. “We immediately removed the piles of earth and flattened them so no one would misuse them,” he said.
The office head said he had yet to find personnel taking advantage of the fake graves. “We will take action against them if we find the perpetrators,” he said.
