lamet Purnomo, the forensic doctor from the Bhayangkara National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, who examined the dead body of Wayan Mirna Salihin, appeared as a witness in the trial against murder suspect Jessica Kumala Wongson at the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday.

After examining the outer part of the Mirna's duodenum, Slamet delivered Mirna's organs to the toxicologist for further investigation. In the Visum et Repertum report, Slamet wrote that Mirna's duodenum was irritated because of a corrosive substance.

On Jan. 9, three days after Mirna died after drinking an iced coffee at Olivier café, the police requested Slamet to examine Mirna's body. Slamet and another doctor, Arif, examined Mirna’s duodenum, liver and bile.

"The outside part of the duodenum was black, especially in the lower part. Normally, the duodenum color is white like milk,” Slamet told the judges.

Slamet, who examined only the outer part of the duodenum, found that it had been irritated.

He said the irritation could have been caused by a corrosive substance such as cyanide, arsenic, or sulfuric acid, all of which are toxic to the body.

Mirna's inner lips also seemed black, which is irregular as the body had been embalmed. If a body has been embalmed, the decaying process is normally halted. (bbn)
