akarta General Elections Commission (KPUD) head Sumarno has warned Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama to stay away from his office during the Jakarta gubernatorial election campaign period, in response to Ahok expressing his desire to continue working.

"Although the incumbent [governor] doesn't run the campaign, he still can't work as normal in the administration. He should make a request for unpaid leave before the campaign period starts, after KPUD names him a gubernatorial election candidate," Sumarno said Friday, adding that Ahok should file a leave request with the Home Ministry before Oct. 28.

Once the Home Minister receives the leave request, Ahok needs to report to the KPUD. During this period, which will run from Oct. 28 to Feb. 11, Ahok should also stop using the administration’s facilities, Sumarno added.

Ahok filed a judicial review at the Constitutional Court on Tuesday challenging the leave requirements in the Regional Elections Law, as he wants to stay on to work on the 2017 budget.  The KPUD said that Ahok had made the right move appealing to the court as the commission could do nothing to fulfill his request.
