he contractor of the new Terminal 3 said on Monday night it would begin repairs on the drainage system, which overflowed with rainwater on Sunday and caused flooding in the facility at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
Publicly listed state-owned company PT Wijaya Karya, the leader of consortium Kawahapejaya Indonesia, the contractor of the Rp 7 trillion (US$532 million) terminal, said the inundation was caused by the overflowing of rainwater in the open control basin under the floor. The company said the volume of rainwater on Sunday was very high.
Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II has said the cause of flooding was clogged drainage.

Suradi of Wijaya Karya said the consortium suggested building a bypass channel from the control basin. The contractor team will also make a bypass channel from the duct pipe on the roof straight to an open drain outside.
The plan is designed to reduce the amount of water flowing to the drainage under the floor of the terminal.
The work is slated to start at 11 p.m. Monday and continue until 5 a.m. and begin again the next evening until the work is done, Suradi said.
“We have prepared a team that will be on alert 24 hours for any problems that might arise in the terminal. The work on the bypass channels will be finished in a week,” Suradi said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.
