Indonesia has met its own target to win three gold medals at the fifth edition of the Asian Beach Games, in Da Nang, Vietnam.
The three golds were contributed by Ahris Sumariyanto in men’s stroke single beach woodball, Chelsea Carputy in women’s CW1X rowing and I Gusti Agung Ayu Manik in women’s dragon tiger form vovinam (Vietnamese martial art).
Besides taking home the gold, Indonesia also collected five silvers in pencak silat, beach water polo and coastal rowing; as well as nine bronzes in beach woodball, beach sepaktakraw, coastal rowing and pencak silat.
Hellen Sarlita de Lima, chef de mission of Indonesia, lauded the team’s performance.
“[The achievement] showed that [the athletes] were able to perform despite limited preparation,” Hellen said in a statement on Sunday.
At the 2016 Asian Beach Games, which ended on Sunday, Indonesia participated in eight out of 22 sports. Team Indonesia was represented by 65 athletes.
