71-year-old Japanese man, Noburu Nakazawa, died in a boat accident in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday. The boat’s captain, Febrian Lau, 24, and his wife, Erni Juliana, 21, were also killed in the accident.

Denpasar Water Police chief Comr. I Ketut Suparta said the accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. local time as four Japanese tourists were looking at the underwater scenery of southern Bali waters from the glass-bottomed boat.

Shortly after departing Serangan Island in Denpasar, the boat was hit by a large wave around one mile from the island.

"A high wave suddenly struck the boat and caused Nakazawa to fall into the sea. When they realized that their guest had fallen, the captain and his wife tried to save him. However, a bigger wave then came and hit the boat, throwing all passengers into the sea," Suparta said.

Locals living in Serangan rushed to the site of the accident and tried to save them. However, Nakazawa, Febrian and his wife, Erni, were all found dead. Meanwhile, three other Japanese tourists on the boat, Tatsushige Kobayashi, Haruo Mizuno and Hirokazu Ito, survived the incident. (ebf)
