F

ormer high rank official at the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Insp. Gen. Petrus Reinhard Golose has been appointed as a new Bali Police chief and has promised to increase measures to secure the resort island from transnational crimes.

“I will set up a special team to protect Bali from transnational crimes such as terrorism, human and narcotics trafficking and cybercrimes,” Petrus told the press on the sidelines of his inauguration at the National Police’s headquarters on Wednesday.

The former BNPT deputy for international relations was stopped short when asked about details for the plan but ensured that the National Police planned to decentralize procedures in dealing with transnational crimes in order to allow regional police offices to immediately arrest individuals suspected of committing transnational crimes.

In addition to Petrus, National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian also inaugurated eight other police officials, including former West Papua Police chief Brig. Gen. Royke Lumowa, who has been appointed as new chief of the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas).

The new appointments are part of the police’s regular members’ rotation, which aims to frequently bring in new faces to the police institution.
