akarta gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan has said he hopes the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) will provide moderators with integrity for the first debate between governor and deputy governor candidates on Jan. 13.

“I hope the KPU Jakarta can choose moderators with integrity because I have experience as a moderator. When I was a moderator, many parties called me, including candidate campaign teams, in which they asked me to leak the questions I would ask [during the debate],” Anies said during a campaign visit to Jatinegara Barat low-cost apartments in East Jakarta on Wednesday.

He further said he had instructed his campaign team not to contact any moderators before the debate took place.

Claiming that he had not made any special preparation for the debate, Anies said he hoped the event would provide room for the candidates to openly discuss their platforms, visions and missions.

“I hope the debate will open up dialogue either among candidates or between candidates and moderators," he said. (ebf)
