akarta gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has said that he is ready to face his first debate and will seek tips from his father, former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

"I am confident about the debate," Agus said during a campaign event at IS Plaza, East Jakarta, on Friday.

Agus, who refused to participate in two previous gubernatorial debates initiated by two private television stations, said he had prepared sufficient data regarding problems in Jakarta for the debate, organized by the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) for Jan. 13.

He said that with his 10 key programs, he believed that he and running mate Sylviana Murni would nail the debate.

"We will explore further our 10 key programs in the debate and convey it to the public in accordance with the topics raised by panelists and the moderator," he said.

In October, Agus conveyed his 10 key programs, which include assistance funds for the poor, job creation and an increase in educational assistance in the capital.

However, he said he believed that official KPU Jakarta debates on Jan 13, Jan 27, and Feb. 10 would not be the only tool to introduce his platform because he had utilized the three-month campaign period effectively.

"For me, [my campaign] has been effective because I have held dialogues and met residents while doing the field 'guerilla'," he said.(jun)
