Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Anies Baswedan will need to show voters that they have better programs to solve Jakarta’s problems than the policies espoused and implemented by Ahok, Gun Gun Heryanto, executive director of the Political Literacy Institute, told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
“The incumbent has an advantage in this case because he has data on what he has done in Jakarta,” Gun Gun said.
“The challengers will need to deliver a sort of anti-thesis to what the incumbent has done,” he added.

Gun Gun said all the candidates would need to perform well during the debate because the number of swing voters, who are mostly rational and not influenced by religious sectarianism, is still high. He said these swing voters would only be influenced by detailed and specific programs.
The latest survey revealed by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) last month showed swing voters still accounted for 17 to 18 percent of all voters. (jun)
