Fashion designer Didiet Maulana is not only known for his penchant for traditional Indonesian cloths, but also for doing sports. Pictures posted on his social media accounts often show him donning either a stylish look or a sporty running outfit.

“I get so much inspiration when I am doing sports. It also relaxes my mind — a kind of meditative activity for me,” he told The Jakarta Post over the phone.

The founder of IKAT Indonesia has various social media accounts, including Twitter, Facebook and Path, but he is particularly into Instagram.

“To me, Instagram has become an effective medium that can reach out to the target audience since it communicates mostly through images. I do visual works, so it definitely works for me,” he said, adding that he recently used his Instagram account to gather donations to help earthquake victims in Pidie Jaya, Aceh.

This year, Didiet said he would cooperate with young people in Aceh, Klaten and Lasem in Central Java to promote traditional Indonesian woven fabrics and batik.

Here are the apps and gadget that help him in his sports and designer life.

Samsung S7

I have been using a Samsung mobile phone since 2008. I choose a smartphone with good camera because I use this feature a lot. This camera has a big resolution that can capture images in a rather dark place. As a designer, inspiration can pop up anytime, day or night, so I want to be able to capture the moments with my mobile phone.

Nikon D4

This is a very good camera. I rely on the smartphone camera when I travel in remote areas for my research, but I always bring my digital SLR camera as well. My Samsung mobile phone camera is useful to shoot wide, landscape objects, while the digital SLR camera is very reliable to get details of the objects. They complete my needs.

S Health and Samsung Gear Headphone

S Health is an app that can measure my running distance, my speed and the calories that I have burned. I also have Samsung Gear in the form of small headphones. I initially used them to listen to music, but they can also track my fitness activities, such as distance. They are like my running partner. I am very result oriented, so I will get pumped after I get the figures. With all the stats, I can measure my next target for achievement.
