eneral Elections Commission (KPU) offices in Kulonprogo regency and Yogyakarta city are striving to complete the checking and folding of ballot papers to be distributed to polling stations in the areas.

In Yogyakarta, election officials have begun to put folded ballots into large envelopes that will be delivered to 794 polling stations across the city.

Meanwhile, the KPU Kulonprogo is still in the process of checking ballots for damage. As of Tuesday, 214 damaged ballot papers had been found.

KPU Yogyakarta commissioner Hidayat Widodo said after the completion of the checking and folding of the papers, all election materials would be put into ballot drop boxes. Thirteen Yogyakarta residents were involved in preparing the materials.

Hidayat said 1,925 ballot papers had been found to be damaged and would be destroyed.

One of the logistics workers who introduced himself only as Pradana said he and his colleagues worked from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The most important things is the counting of ballot papers so that the number of ballots we prepare is in line with the number of voters at each polling station,” said Pradana.

Meanwhile, KPU Kulonprogo commissioner Budi Priyana said the checking and folding of ballots had taken three days and was done at the ex-Mandala cinema in Wates, the capital of Kulonprogo regency.

“We checked and folded ballots for two districts. Kulonprogo has 12 districts,” said Budi. The logistics preparation will completed and the ballot papers will be ready for distribution by Feb.4, he said. (ebf)
