eneral Elections Commission (KPU) commissioner Hadar Nafis Gumay has said printing companies that produced ballots for the Feb. 15 simultaneous regional elections were responsible for the replacement of all damaged ballots found during the sorting process.

It has been reported that KPU offices across the country have found damaged ballots while sorting them.

“The damaged ballots will be replaced and the replacements should be immediately delivered to KPU offices in the respective municipalities and regencies. It is stated in the agreement [between the regional KPUs and printing companies], that all ballots should be in accordance with the determined specifications,” Hadar told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

Another commissioner, Sigit Pamungkas, said the KPU would make sure that the damaged ballots would not be misused.

“KPU offices in municipalities and regencies should take note of the exact number of damaged ballots they find. Those ballots shall be destroyed, witnessed by the police and the Elections Supervisory Agency,” Sigit said.

He said further that the damaged ballots would be destroyed after KPU offices in municipalities and regencies finished the sorting and packing of all ballots they received. (bbs)
