T

housands of people flocked to Gelora Bung Karno in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Saturday wearing blue-red plaid shirts to attend a large campaign event held by Jakarta incumbent Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat.

A large stage had been erected, where a number of noted bands, including Slank, and musicians such as Gita Gutawa, Tompi, Glen Fredly and Krisdayanti, would entertain attendees.

Elites from political parties endorsing the pair, including from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the Golkar Party, the NasDem Party, the Hanura  Party and the Djan Farid-led United Development Party (PPP) are set to attend. PDI-P chairwoman and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri is scheduled to attend and give a speech.

Ahok will make a speech in front of his supporters.

Several Golkar elites, such as Yorrys Raweyai and Nusron Wahid, will not attend as they will instead be campaigning in East Kalimantan.

The concert, which aims to display a creative, innovative and participatory campaign, will be the last big campaign event for the pair until voting day on Feb. 15. The artists said they had volunteered to perform in hopes of a Ahok-Djarot victory. (evi)
