watchdog has recorded indications of campaign violations at a major rally organized by the Jakarta gubernatorial candidate pair of Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno, as children were spotted participating in the event at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.

"Our team has collected photos of several children joining the campaign of candidate number three. Those children wore campaign attributes," Central Jakarta Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu Central Jakarta) head Halman Muhdar told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

According to the General Elections Commissions (KPU), it is forbidden to involve children in any campaign activities.

Halman said the commission would summon the Anies-Sandiaga campaign team soon to question them about this finding.

The Panwaslu could impose administrative sanctions in the form of a verbal or written warning if the campaign team was proven to have mobilized children for the event, he said.

Halman went on to say that Panwaslu had also received claims of children participating in a major campaign rally held by the incumbents, Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat, in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Saturday.

However, as of Monday afternoon, Panwaslu Central Jakarta had not accepted any evidence in regard to those claims.

The body would further investigate the issue before deciding whether it needed to summon the Ahok-Djarot campaign team as well, Halman said. (trw)
