he City Council is to soon form a special committee to study the altered development plans for the second phase of the MRT system that will make Ancol Timur instead of Kampung Bandan the northern terminus of the extension of the line from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle.
City Council deputy speaker Triwisaksana said Tuesday the special committee was expected to be formed next week.
He added that the committee would, among other things, ask the city administration for a concrete explanation for why the route was altered from Kampung Bandan to Ancol Timur in North Jakarta because the alteration would make a big financial impact.
It would cost an additional Rp 11.7 trillion (US$877.5 million), not the Rp 16 trillion reported earlier, because the length of the new route is about 6.1 kilometers longer than the initial 8.5 km. The initial route needed Rp 22.5 trillion.
“If the administration can’t provide us with reasonable answers, we won’t accept the request,” Triwisaksana said. “We would better use the money to build hospitals or places of worship,” he added.
