ndonesia’s top flight Persib Bandung has hired former English Premier League striker Carlton Cole, the soccer club announced Thursday.
Cole joins Persib just two weeks before the kick-off of Go-Jek Traveloka Liga 1, the nation’s top soccer league named after its sponsors.
“[Cole] arrived [in Bandung] on Monday and we negotiated [ the contract] on Tuesday. He went for a medical test and passed it on Wednesday,” the club’s CEO, Teddy Tjahjono, was quoted as saying by Persib’s website, persib.co.id, on Thursday.
Cole will wear jersey number 12, the same jersey number we wore during his debut with Chelsea.
In the Premier League, the 33-year-old Briton played for Chelsea between 2001 and 2006, Aston Villa (on loan) in 2004-2005, and West Ham United in 2006-2015.
Cole’s presence is the latest addition to Persib’s list of international players after another former Chelsea player, Michael Essien of Ghana, and Japanese Shohei Matsunaga, who once played for Bundesliga’s Schalke 04, joined the team.
