efusing to acknowledge the new leadership, former Regional Representatives Council (DPD) deputy speaker GKR Hemas held a consultation meeting at the DPD complex on Monday to discuss efforts to urge the Supreme Court to annul the inauguration of her successor Oesman Sapta Odang and his deputies – Nono Sampono and Darmayanti Lubis.

Hemas has refused to acknowledge the leadership of businessman-turned-politician Oesman. Condemning all activities taking place under the Hanura Party chairman as illegal, she and her supporters also expected to meet Supreme Court Chief Justice Hatta Ali to discuss the matter.

Oesman and his deputies were inaugurated by deputy chief justice Suwardi on behalf of Hatta Ali, who is on the minor haj, on April 4.

“We will urge the Supreme Court chief to annul the inauguration [of Oesman],” Hemas said as quoted by kompas.com. She said further, that whatever decisions Oesman made as DPD chief would be illegal.

“We must comply with the Supreme Court ruling,” she added, referring to the court’s decision that annulled the council’s code of conduct and DPD Regulation No. 1/2016 that halved the tenure of DPD speakers and deputy speakers from five years to two-and-a-half years. The decision thus consequently disapproves a leadership change until 2019.

Despite her protest against Oesman’s election, Hemas, however, refused to take legal action to challenge the inauguration of the chairman of the Hanura Party, saying that she would wait for Hatta to explain the Supreme Court’s controversial decision to eventually inaugurate Oesman as new DPD Speaker. (msa)
